Natalie Salazar, a member of the AFSC, was diagnosed with cancer in September, 2006. Natalie competed in many USFS events, winning a total of 26 medals. She was a good friend to many of our skaters, coaches and parents.
Natalie's parents, Maria and Sumo, were great supporters
of our club.
In the spring of 2007, AFSC held a benefit which featured Meryl Davis & Charlie White, Brooke Castile & Ben Okolski, Tanith Belbin & Ben Agosto and Alissa Czisny. This benefit raised over $22,000 for Natalie's medical expenses.
Natalie lost her courageous battle with cancer on September 20, 2007. As a memorial to Natalie, the AFSC created the Natalie Salazar Memorial Garden in the spring of 2008.
AFSC families volunteer in this garden throughout the year to honor Natalie and accumulate volunteer hours toward their requirements.
